SMF is an independent non political society.
SMF was founded June 1'st, 1990.
Our mission:
We have taken upon us to create public opinion against environmental harmful activities related to the Stockholm Archipelago mostly caused by heavy ship traffic passing through the archipelago.
In order to do this we collect facts and knowledge to be published on this site and we write articles to be published in newspapers and other suitable media.
We further engage ourselves in general environmental problems related to the archipelago such as erosion caused by heavy ship traffic as well as by smaller crafts, unacceptable noise and insecure speeds of miscellaneous seagoing vehicles etc.
Our incentive is to initiate measures to minimise the ongoing and increasing destruction of our environment. To protect the life and the environment is a task that at lot of people feels strongly for.
To succeed we need your assistance. Join now!

We demand on behalf of the Stockholm Archipelago that
- the maximum size of cruisers, ferries and other large ships allowed into the archipelago is set below 25'000 Gross Tonnage.
- less than 4'000 turn arounds per year.
- the air pollution caused by large sea vessels is minimised - mandatory use of best possible exhaust cleaning systems and engine fuel.
- transportation of gods and people that is not primarily destined to Stockholm is redirected to more suitable ports.
If these moderate demands are met, then
- the routes through the archipelago will be sufficient,
- the sea security will be adequate,
- the damaging load on the environment will be reduced.
SMF has produced reports that show that our demands not only are possible but profitable as well. Copies of these reports (Swedish only) can be ordered from SMF. Authors are
Owe Ljunghammer and Jan F Henriksson. Titles "Var bör
båten gå" and "Miljövänligare godsfärjetrafik".
